Humanities, Education, and Ministry Programs

Malone’s Humanities, Education, and Ministry division supports the breadth of Malone’s identity as a Christian liberal arts university through academic programs that explore and interpret human culture, history, and experience through a lens of biblical faith. These diverse academic disciplines aim to help students understand the human condition and its expressions in order to better serve the Church, community, and world.

At Malone, the study of theology is not just for future ministers, but for all who desire to seek answers to the great questions of Scripture, human life, and Christian faith. Malone’s Bible, Theology, and Ministry program offers a wide range of opportunities for students to craft the kind of ministries that speak to their individual callings.

The faculty of Malone’s Communication, Visual, and Performing arts program are committed to developing communicators and artists who are rooted in communities, working as agents of truth, reflection, transformation, and reconciliation in a way that celebrates God’s grace and faithfulness.

The motto of Malone’s Education program is “Educators Serving Together.” Students are prepared to become professional educators within the context of Christian faith, and to be intellectually mature, reflective, collaborative, and committed to serving others. The program places an emphasis on hands-on educational experiences that begin in the first year of college.

The English program is centered in the tradition of learning that believes an educated person who is reflective, inventive, well-read, and skilled in spoken and written communication, is best equipped for the workplace and to lead a rewarding life. By helping students grow in their facility with language and literature, we prepare them for thoughtful and effective lives, better serving Christ’s kingdom in the communities in which they live, worship, and work.

The History and Political Science program uses the tools of history, philosophy, political science, and sociology from a Christian perspective to encourage students to think through challenging ethical questions and develop an understanding of the relationship between history, politics, theology, and other issues that stand at the intersection of faith and culture.

The Music and Worship Arts program is notable for its depth and breadth of performance opportunities. Malone has a long and rich tradition in choral and instrumental music. These ensemble and individual experiences in music are available to majors and non-majors as essential components of Malone’s liberal arts education.

“Being at a Christian institution with Bible classes and chapel gave me an amazing foundation for what I didn’t yet know I needed. We didn’t compartmentalize our faith and academics, as we looked at everything from a biblical base and Christian worldview. I still use a lot of what I learned in my music classes in my day-to-day work as a director. What I learned and experienced at Malone helps me make it all happen.”
